1107

PAPER EPHEMERA / AUTOGRAPH / LETTER ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN - 1952 This wonderful piece of history is from a Chicago estate but it is apparent that the family once lived / visited New York City, New York.

The stationary/letterhead has the address 1139 TOWER ROAD, BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA at the top.

The letter is dated April 25, 1952 and is signed ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN.

It reads:
Dear....It gives me particular pleasure to send a photograph of mine to you, one of my really loyal and sympathetic listeners. Your presence at any concert of mine gives me always a moral lift, as I feel sure that at least one person listens with all her heart to my playing.

I have had no time yet to read the book you were kind enough to give me, but this summer I promise I am going to read it.

Also let me thank you for your sweet and generous gift for the Chopin Fund.

Yours always, cordially,
Arthur Rubinstein

ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN cared about his fans just as much as they cared about him and his music.

More information about the letter:
What also makes this letter even more interesting is that when this letter was typed the letter is missing in the spelling of two of the words. Mr. Rubinstein may have proof-read the letter and marked in the missing i's. It appears to us that the same pen was used for the signature and the two missing letter i's.

The CONDITION of the PAPER is GOOD.
The PAPER is thin/onion skin is slightly dry but not brittle and has discoloration.

Interestingly enough when the letter is raised up to the light there are words that are super-imposed on the stationary that read: BROADWAY TRUST BOND (there are some other letters also but we cannot decipher them at this time).

Unfortunately, we do not have the PHOTOGRAPH that the letter is referring to but we do have the ORIGINAL WRITTEN/STAMPED/POSTMARKED
ENVELOPE that the letter was mailed in.

A BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT MR. RUBINSTEIN: ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN is considered one of the greatest concert pianists of the 20th century for his lyricism, dashing technique and distinctive-golden tone.

RB91

POSTCARD 1948 CALIFORNIA NIGHT CLUB AUTOGRAPHED by JIMMY DURANTE What a surprise we had when we took a closer look at the BACK of this POSTCARD. It reads: To Shirley - a pleasure meeting you JIMMY DURANTE!

It is dated MARCH 22, 1948, is in the upper right hand corner on the back of the POSTCARD also.

The POSTCARD was distributed by a CALIFORNIA NIGHTCLUB called SLAPSY MAXIES for advertising purposes. Our research indicates that this NIGHTCLUB existed in the 1940's and offered COMEDY and DANCING as entertainment. We do not believe that this NIGHTCLUB exists today!

ON THE FRONT of the POSTCARD:
The POSTCARD has a HUMEROUS COMEDY SCENE with many people at the club, dancing, singing, and etc.! There are COMIC BALLOONS above the people with all sorts of funny sayings.

The POSTCARD is in GOOD CONDITION.

ON THE BACKSIDE of the POSTCARD:
The WRITING and AUTOGRAPH by JIMMY DURANTE is in pencil on the backside and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
The DATE is WRITTEN in PEN on the top right hand edge on the backside.

POSTCARD CONDITION-GOOD:
The POSTCARD is discolored but the COLORS are still bright. It was kept in a scrapbook.

There are 2-1 1/2 inch pieces of tape attached to 2 sides and 2 places where the tape has been removed on the other 2 sides. There also is a slight fold across the left side of the postcard and the bottom right-hand corner.
Circa: 1940
Condition: USED
Size: POSTCARD 7 1/2 X 11 inches
Color: MULTI
