PORCELAIN CHINA-CHOCOLATE SET-NIPPON - E - OH CHINA - JAPAN This is a lovely NIPPON CHOCOLATE SET was made by the E - OH CHINA COMPANY in JAPAN.

The set includes:
1 - Chocolate Pot - Height 10 inches - Liquid Capacity 32 ounces

5 - Chocolate Cups - Height 3 inches - Liquid Capacity 4 ounces

5 - Saucers - Diameter 5 inches

The set features a primary white semi-opaque background with roses in the colors of dark / pale shades of pink and dark / pale shades of yellow roses, a cascading bud and pale / dark green leaves. The rim is trimmed in cobalt blue. The set has gold accents and beading.

The manufacture stamped mark is in a pale blue under the glaze on the bottom of the chocolate pot and the saucers (Mark identified in a book called Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain by author Joan F. Van Pattan).

Our resource indicates:
The word Nippon in western characters means Japan and occurs on most Japanese wares from around 1890 until the early 1920s. From 1891 imports to America were required to be marked with the country of origin, in western characters. Thus Japanese exports (to America) were marked with Nippon in english from this date to 1922, when the requirement was changed to that the word Japan should be used. These are the so-called Nippon wares.

The CONDITION is ESTATE / USED. This is a very old set. There are some flaws. There is roughness around the rims of the cups that we believe to be from the manufacturing process. The mark indicates that the set is hand painted. There are areas of wear to the gold accents. The glaze is shiney. One of the cups has an area wear the painter must have touched the inside of the cup with paint...it is under the glaze.

VINTAGE BONE CHINA NUT DISHES-NIPPON-SET of FOUR (4) This listing is for a SET of FOUR (4) NUT DISHES (not FIVE as shown in the photograph).

Each NUT DISH features a PRIMARY WHITE BACKGROUND and are HAND PAINTED. On the insided there are PINK and RED ROSES with GREEN LEAVES. The ROSES are seperated or sectioned with a painted BLACK LINE edged in GOLD PAINT and the ROSE in the center ROSE is encircled. The RIM is trimmed in GOLD.

They stands on 3 CURVED LEGS with each leg accented with GOLD PAINT.

The CONDITION of the NUT DISHES is GOOD. These dishes are old. There are a couple of painted areas where the paint is worn and two of dishes have a small chip on the inside of the bowl on a painted area. We also want to mention that the GOLD TRIM on the rim may not be original.

The NIPPON MAPLE LEAF HAND PAINTED MARK is in BLUE on the bottom.
